Reasons for supplementing lighting for greenhouses

Is it possible for greenhouse growth condition to meet the cannabis cultivated need?

Obviously, it isnot.

Lighting condition for greenhouse

Lighting condition for greenhouse

The Natural lighting and intensity(PPFD:the photosynthetic active flux intensity) will have a big difference according to seasons, location and covering film materials from greenhouse. Generally, the natural light intensity will be higher in Summer than winter.

Summer lighting condition

In summer sunny day, the outdoor PPFD can reach 2000umol/m2/s. however, the greenhouse covered film material will block and reflect some part of lights, leading to decreasing the light intensity by around 20% to 50%. So, the PPFD only have 1000-1600umol/m2/s.

Winter lighting condition

In winter, when the sunshine time is short and the sun’s altitude angle is low, the PPFD value outdoors is usually only half of that in summer or even lower. In a greenhouse, this value may be further reduced to only 300 to 800 μmol/m²/s.

Of course, if it is necessary, you will need to use a PAR meter to measure the actual PPFD value of your greenhouse in different seasons.

Cannabis growing demands.

The light intensity and time required by cannabis during the growth period: the optimal PPFD value is 800umol/㎡/s, and the lighting time is 18 hours; the optimal PPFD value during the flowering period is 1100umol/㎡/s, and the lighting time is 12 hours.

Can such a long period of light exposure be achieved with natural light alone?

The answer is obvious, no.

In addition, cloudy and overcast weather will also lead to insufficient light, which will affect the normal growth of cannabis. Therefore, the greenhouse cultivation model that relies solely on natural light cannot guarantee stable high yields and high quality throughout the year.

Supplemental lighting advantage

Increasing the growth speed and yield

By supplemental lighting, we can get sufficient lights making sure of cannabis growth at the growth phase, promoting the plant photosynthetic.

Improve the plant healthy and quality

Sufficient light can not only promote growth, but also enhance the plant's disease resistance and reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests.

Allow to grow for a whole year more than the season limitation
Lighting technology makes greenhouse cultivation no longer subject to seasonal changes. Are you still worried about low light in winter? With lighting technology, growers can plant at any time, achieve year-round production, and stably supply market demand. No longer be led by the season

The 500W top fill light .Using high transmittance PC lenses and aviation aluminum materials, plants can better absorb light and promote plant growth. Full spectrum light design suitable for a variety of plant growth. Combined with the waterproof design, it is suitable for various environments and can operate stably both indoors and outdoors.

1. PC lens: high light transmittance and heat resistance.

2. Aviation aluminum material: High-quality material ensures stability.

3. Waterproof characteristics: multi-scenario compatibility, easily adaptable to various needs

4. Full spectrum light source: simulates natural light, suitable for all types of plants.

5.SANAN white LED: cost-effective light source choice.

6. UL certified safety: The driver is UL safety certified.

Notes on practical operation

Controlled the supplemental lighting time and intensity:

Different growth stages have different requirements for light duration and intensity. The growth period requires long-term, high-intensity light, 16 hours of light, 8 hours of darkness, and a PPFD value of about 800umol/㎡/s. The flowering period requires shorter but stronger light, 12 hours of light, 12 hours of darkness, and a PPFD value of about 1100umol/㎡/s. The specific requirements depend on the overall growth environment and the variety of cannabis. Adjusting these parameters can avoid over- or under-exposure.

Avoid over-filling:

Excessive supplementary light will lead to excessive photosynthesis. Do you know what the consequences will be? Not only will the plants not grow faster, but they may be tortured by "light pollution" and be at a loss. Excessive photosynthesis will affect the normal growth of plants and even cause leaf burns. It is not the fact that The more supplementary light, the better. Just the right amount is the best.

In the process of growing cannabis in greenhouses, supplementary lights can effectively make up for the lack of natural light in the greenhouse and promote the healthy growth and high quality of cannabis plants. How to Choose the Right Grow Light for Your Plants

Choosing the right grow light is crucial for plant growth. LED lights are energy-efficient and suitable for most plants, offering a full spectrum. HPS lights are ideal for the flowering stage but consume more energy and produce high heat. Fluorescent lights are best for small plants and seedlings. Leafy greens need 12-16 hours of light, succulents require 4 hours of strong light, and cannabis thrives under full-spectrum LED lights for all growth stages.

How to Manage Temperature and Humidity When Growing Cannabis

With South Africa's laws gradually relaxing, adults are now allowed to grow 4-6 plants in private spaces. However, growing high-quality cannabis is no easy task, as it involves many factors, including light, soil characteristics, nutrients, water, and, most importantly, temperature and humidity. Each element plays a crucial role, and even the slightest misstep could significantly reduce your yield.
